Edmodo

Our class will be using the Edmodo website throughout the school year to complete a number of assignments. Students will sign up for an account here at school and be given a tutorial on how to use it. They may use this as a way to communicate with one another and myself for educational purposes only.

Why Edmodo?
As a teacher, it is my responsibility to provide students with the 21st century skills they will need to survive in a technology driven world. Our students are expected to be collaborators, effective communicators, global citizens, technology consumers and contributors. As a teacher, I am charged with providing students with the opportunities to practice refining these skills in a safe and secure environment. Edmodo offers a convenient means to do this for both myself as an educator and my students. Please review the list below for a more specific idea of how Edmodo will be used in our classroom.

Edmodo provides the following:

  • a secure social network or mini-blog just for the classroom
  • a means to post topics for student discussions both during and outside of class on an individual or group basis
  • a means to supervise and manage class posts within the group as an administrator
  • a means to communicate classwork to a public audience at the discretion of the teacher/administrator
  • a web tool which does not require a student email address to sign up
  • a way to post files and documents such as worksheets, assessments, web links, videos, and audio recordings
  • a way to post, grade, and return assignments on-line for student and teacher access
  • a way to alert students of deadlines, on-line resources, calendar events and more
  • a way to notify students
  • a way to conduct surveys/polls on-line
  • access from computer, iPod-touch, iPad, or smart technology cellphones- which have internet connection
  • a way to connect with colleagues and to collaborate on best practices

Edmodo Parent Registration

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This year, we will be using Edmodo in our classroom. Edmodo is a free and secure social learning network for teachers, students and schools, which is sponsored by Durham Public Schools. It provides a safe and easy way for us to connect with you and your student by sharing content, assignments, activities, and reminders.

Edmodo offers parent accounts and I would like to invite you to join our classroom online. With parent accounts, you can view your child’s assignments and due dates as well as monitor what your child is writing on Edmodo.

Edmodo is accessible online and on any mobile device with internet capabilities (they also offer a free iPhone and Android app). You can access your account on the go, and adjust your notification settings within Edmodo to receive alerts via text or email. To join our classroom on Edmodo, follow these steps:

1. Have your child log on to their Edmodo account. (This is available at school if needed)
a. Username: first name-last name Example: lindsey-cross
b. Password: teachers last name and room number (no spaces) Example: cross414
2. Find and record the unique parent code.
3. Go to www.edmodo.com
4. Select “Parent”
5. Key in your unique code:"See me for the code"in the Parent Code field, then create your unique username and password.
6. Select Sign Up.

After you sign up for the first time, you will no longer need the parent code – you will login using your unique username and password to login. Your account will grant you access to all of your student’s groups. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I look forward to connecting with you on Edmodo!
